“Dear Sergeant Fuller, You won’t know me for another two years, but I am your daughter…”
So begins a letter sent decades into the past, from a daughter searching for answers to a soldier serving in war-torn Vietnam, in this true story of service and sacrifice, love and redemption, and the power of forgiveness. Love Letters from Vietnam is the latest installment of songwriter/author Alex Woodard’s “For the Sender” concert series. Woodard, joined on stage by Harley Jay (Rent, Miss Saigon) and Molly Jenson, gives us the story of a passionate yet deeply flawed soldier as told through the letters he sent home from the war and the incredible letters sent back in time from his daughter. A unforgettable musical theater experience.
After years of chasing his dreams, singer-songwriter Alex Woodard finally had a record deal and an album to promote. He offered to write a song for anybody who pre-ordered his self-titled release; all they had to do was send him a letter about their story, and he would write and record a song just for them at his kitchen table. From this, For the Sender was born: part songwriters circle, part story telling session, For the Sender is a collective of musicians, led by Woodard, who put to music letters written by the living celebrating those they have lost.
