This musical adventure is a genuine family classic about Dorothy Gale, an orphaned young girl unhappy with her drab black-and-white existence on her aunt and uncle's dusty Kansas farm. Dorothy yearns to travel "over the rainbow" to a different world, and she gets her wish when a tornado whisks her and her little dog Toto to the colorful land of Oz. Having offended the Wicked Witch of the West, Dorothy is protected from the old crone's wrath by the ruby slippers that she wears. At the suggestion of Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, Dorothy heads down the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City, where dwells the all-powerful Wizard of Oz, who might be able to help the girl return to Kansas. En route, she befriends a Scarecrow, a Tin Man, and a Cowardly Lion. The Scarecrow would like to have a brain, the Tin Man craves a heart, and the Lion wants to attain courage; hoping that the Wizard will help them too, they join Dorothy on her odyssey to the Emerald City. This stage adaptation of The Wizard of Oz is based on everybody's cherished favorite, perennial fantasy film musical from MGM during its golden years. It has became a classic institution, and a rite of passage for everyone, and probably has been seen by more people than any other motion picture over multiple decades. All of its images (the Yellow Brick Road, the Kansas twister), characters (e.g., Auntie Em, Toto, Dorothy, the Wicked Witch), dialogue (e.g., "Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!", "We're not in Kansas anymore," "Follow the Yellow Brick Road," or the film's final line: "There's no place like home"), and music ("Over the Rainbow") have become indelibly remembered. This journey over the rainbow features an amazing cast of young people and adults from the greater San Diego area. The visual flying effects by world renowned ZFX will add a special twist to this classic American musical. A sure treat for audiences of all ages....
